B/ORDERS IN MOTION Research Group I
Managing Boundaries in Triadic Negotiation Processes
Jan 2014 - Dec 2016
Research Group M.A. Imke Kerber, Prof. Dr. Lars Kirchhoff, Dr. Anne Isabel Kraus, Prof. Dr. Jürgen Neyer, Prof. Dr. Albrecht Söllner, Dr. Ben Wagner Funded by the Viadrina Center for B/ORDERS IN MOTION Subject of Research The interdisciplinary research project focuses on the actions and strategies of third parties in peace negotiations, investor-state disputes and inclusion policies. In all these negotiation processes third parties are confronted with boundaries that limit the scope of their influence, most importantly methodical and normative boundaries. Respecting the diversity of the case settings in view of what is a "good" and a "bad" mediation process and outcome, the group´s joint research question is: How can third parties proceed along these boundaries in a way that "good" processes and outcomes become more likely? |
Methodical Approach The project brings together empirical and theoretical studies on third-party mediation from peace and conflict studies, law, philosophy, political science and economics. A matrix for the analysis of boundaries serves as a transdisciplinary analytical grammar.
