Constitution-Mediation-Nexus (CMN)
Undergoing a constitution making process is the most quintessentially sovereign act a society can perform. Mediation is the most autonomy-orientated method in the modern spectrum of conflict management processes. However, the logics, design principles, dynamics and methods of these processes can collide.
The Viadrina-Berghof Project on the Constitution-Mediation-Nexus (CMN) takes the Berghof Primer, the spectrum of existing guidances and the general discussion on the nexus as a starting point. From this we zoom in, focusing on the interaction of the two processes - mediation and constitution making – in situations where the respective logics and principles collide. Driven by a strong methodological approach, the project does not primarily hinge on comprehensive case studies but aims to contribute to the method choices, dilemma-management and decision-making processes of those who are dealing with the nexus on a practical level.
The research team consists of Lars Kirchhoff (Viadrina), Felix Würkert (Viadrina), Anna Dick (Viadrina) and Luxshi Vimalarajah (Berghof).
