Conference: The OSCE as Mediator. Instruments – Challenges – Potentials
On 6 July 2016, the German OSCE Chairmanship 2016 hosted a conference on peace mediation in Berlin. The conference was organized by the Federal Foreign Office and the Initiative Mediation Support Germany (IMSD) of which the CPM is a member organization.
Mediation as an important instrument of the OSCE within the conflict cycle has been developed and expanded over the last years. The conference intended to review different aspects of and approaches to mediation, taking into consideration ongoing mediation efforts in the OSCE region.
Lars Kirchhoff and Julia von Dobeneck (CPM) moderated a panel on “Protracted conflicts and their Multi-Dimensionality for Mediation: How to see and use the potential of perceived deadlock-situations? Kick-off Examples from the Transdniestrian Settlement Process” with Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt, Rasa Ostrauskaite, Roxana Cristescu, Dr Tanja Tamminen and Dr Walter Kemp. The main insights can be found in the conference report.
