Mediation Hub: Research and Transfer Project "Peace Mediation"
Since 2018, the Center for Peace Mediation runs the Mediation Hub, a research and transfer project embedded in Division S03 | Crisis Prevention, Stabilisation and Peacebuilding of the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO).
Following Viadrina`s approach of mutual knowledge transfer, the Hub brings conceptual and methodological research on peace mediation together with the political realities of peace mediation actors, using the resulting insights in various ways to strengthen both sides’ work. In particular, the Hub aims to identify the operational conditions for a meaningful use of peace mediation in the German crisis intervention and stabilisation portfolio and to translate these conditions into concrete practical guidance.
Besides the continuous day to day exchange between CPM researchers and the Division S03 Peace Mediation Team and other FFO divisions, the Hub provides, amongst others, methodological and conceptual support as well as in-house trainings for diplomatic staff.
The Mediation Hub is interlinked with the Research and Knowledge Transfer Hub for Rule of Law Promotion (RSF Hub) of Freie Universität Berlin and the Research and Knowledge Transfer Office Security Sector Reform (SSR Hub) of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy Hamburg.
The research team consists of Lars Kirchhoff and Anne Holper. Anna Dick and Christian Hochmuth support the project from Viadrina side.
